- “Honey, what do you think about if we invite some friends for a dinner next weekend?
- “Well honey, should we put everything ready before our baby arrives?
This is the conversation I had with my loving spouse last night before going to the bed. I am an extrovert and my spouse is an introvert.
I once had a lunch with my business friend. He talked a lot. More than none of my talkative girlfriends do. After that business lunch I was so exhausted that next time when I saw my spouse I said to him how happy I am that he is not talking as much as my business friend does. In fact, I love my spouse being an introvert.
So by all my heart, I can tell you that you can love your spouse’s personality differences.
The Myers-Briggs: Eight Psychological Differences and Four Opposite Pairs
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment is a psychometric questionnaire designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions.
The MBTI sorts eight psychological differences into four opposite pairs, with a resulting 16 possible psychological types.
Energy Direction – Extraversion (E) and Introversion (I)
If you are action oriented and prefer to focus on “the outer world” of people and activity, you are an Extravert (E). You talk more than listen. You recharge and get your energy from spending time with people.
If you are thought oriented and prefer “the inner world” of ideas and explanations of beliefs, you are an Introvert (I). You listen more than talk. You get your energy from spending time alone.
Information Gathering and Processing – Sensing (S) and Intuition (N)
If you trust information that is in the present and concrete, and you look for details, facts, clarity and descriptions, you are a Sensor (S). For you, the meaning is the data. You live “here and now”.
If you prefer ideas, exploring the unknown and generating new possibilities, you are an Intuitive (N). You are more interested in future possibilities and trust the flashes of insight that seem to bubble up from the unconscious mind.
Decision Making – Thinking (T) and Feeling (F)
If you tend to make decisions based on logic and objective analysis, you are a Thinker (T). You are honest and direct, take only few things personally, and you tend to give very direct feedback to others.
If you make your decisions based on your values and feelings, you are a Feeler (F). You are diplomatic and you prefer achieving balance, consensus and greatest harmony considering the needs of the people involved. You are quick to compliment others.
Lifestyle – Judging (J) and Perception (P)
If you want your life to be planned, stable and organized, you are a Judger (J). You find comfort in schedules. You take responsibilities seriously and your prefer “work first, play later”.
If you like to “go with the flow,” be flexible and respond to situations as they appear, you are a Perceiver (P). You are playful, casual and you prefer “play first, work later”. You like to start new things but you may have difficulties making some decisions. You want the freedom to be spontaneous.
